| We are delighted to welcome to Holdenby an exhibition of sculptures by David Shilling, after its triumphant display in Regent's Park, London, in 2005. |
David Shilling's work is in the permanent collections of museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and in the British Government Art Collection. He also exhibits at the Science Museum in London and the Azabu Museum in Tokyo. |
In this collection of works, David Shilling has used stainless steel, polished to a mirror-like finish, to create large reflective sculptures that redefine their environment, with their sensual and deceptively simple lines. The exhibition has been strategically and imaginatively arranged to contrast with the stately, traditional environment of the Holdenby gardens. |

David Shilling has also installed three-legged works which perfectly confront the past, present and future of Holdenby, suggesting the pennants and paraphernalia of Elizabethan celebrations and alien forms from some unknown future time. These are mainly in aluminium with some steel, and encompass signature themes which recur constantly in Shilling's work: lips, hearts (the symbols of love), positive energy and optimism, the importance of reaching out, openness and friendship. | |
