Our education department is amongst the most prestigious in the country. We celebrate our 30th anniversary this year and are one of only three centres to have been awarded six consecutive Sandford Awards by the Heritage Education Trust (the others are the Tower of London and Blenheim Palace), as well as a Reed Award for work with special needs children.
These awards recognise our innovative living history projects, where staff and pupils are "in character" for a range of hands-on activities. All our projects marry the requirements of the National Curriculum with real aspects of Holdenby's history. The House, Grade 1 listed gardens, 14th century Church and estate are not only a perfect backdrop to the children's day out, but are open to school groups and are integrated into the educational programme.
We are now starting to embark on an Outreach Programme, so if you are finding it difficult to come out to Holdenby we can bring our activities to you. Please contact us for more information or call Syliva on 01604 770786 for more information.
Our trained and costumed interpreters have years of experience and are sensitive and flexible to the children's educational needs. Teachers are invited to visit Holdenby before their school outing to refine plans and to ensure that the project satisfies their needs. We offer four main themed days
