Built by Queen Elizabeth’s Lord Chancellor as the biggest house in Elizabethan England, Holdenby subsequently became the palace of James I and Charles I, and finally Charles’ prison after his defeat in The Civil War.

Now reduced to an eighth of its original size, Holdenby has lost little of its magnificence, with beautiful state rooms and Grade I gardens.

Which is why Holdenby House and Gardens makes a stunning backdrop and venue for filming and photography.

Over the years Holdenby has been the perfect location for film & TV, including “Biggles” “Take a Girl like That” Woman in White”, Great Expectations and more recently featured in Documentaries “An American Aristocrats Guide to Great Estates” and “Digging for Britain”
