March 16 2021

It’s been a long hard winter but from 18th April 2021 - Holdenby is not just back, it’s better than ever!

This year, we are not just opening on Sundays, but for the whole weekend! Saturdays and Sundays from 18th April to 10th October 2021.
To support this, we’ve been hard at work making some important improvements.

Firstly, your garden admission will include a visit to the extraordinary Icarus Falconry Centre, located within the old walled gardens of Holdenby House.

King James I and King Charles I would practice falconry at Holdenby when it was their Palace. Come and see our wonderful collection of Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, Buzzards and Owls and learn more about this ancient art.

Secondly, we are enhancing your experience of our stunning Grade I listed Gardens, with new features to see, and much more information, particularly about the history of the greatest House and Palace in England which became the Prison to King Charles I; what it looked like, what plants they grew and what happened to King Charles I whilst he was here.

We are of course, making it Covid -19 safe, with social distancing, a one-way route around the grounds and a hand sanitiser station.

To make it even safer, we are making the tickets available online. Tickets will be restricted in numbers to avoid any over-crowding. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Last year, two developments happened to our education programme. Firstly, we were awarded our 8th Sanford Award for Heritage Education, confirming our position as the most awarded schools programme in the country. Then that same week, we very sadly, like everyone else, had to suspend it owing to Covid-19 and have been closed ever since.

But we have not been idle and have used this enforced holiday to make improvements. We are expanding our existing programmes so that bearing in mind the current situation, more can be done safely outside.

Also, later in the Summer, we are planning (again Covid-19 permitting), to launch an exciting new branch of our Education Programme.

Watch this space!

Owing to Covid-19 restrictions on large events, we have sadly had to postpone our Holdenby Vintage Easter for the second year running. A great shame, as this has been an enormous favourite with everybody. Please also note the Gardens & Falconry Centre are closed for the Easter weekend.

On the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, we will be holding our Homes and Gardens Fair from the 29 -31st May. Follow this space for further news and any potential stallholders are invited to apply for stands HERE.

Our second Festive Gift Fair is scheduled for 6th & 7th of November and we are working on a brand new surprise for the August Bank Holiday!

Hopefully, all can be revealed soon.

If Covid-19 permits, the House will be open as usual on Bank Holiday and Event weekends. We will keep you informed as government policy develops.

We will also be opening for pre-booked House Tours for group bookings. For more information, please apply to the office.

Dinners and other inside events can be booked in the same way, subject to current Covid-19 policy restrictions.

We are pleased to say that almost all of our Brides who could not have their Weddings with us last year owing to Covid-19, have re-booked for this year and we are making sure they have an extra special day!

We are now open for bookings, with many couples already having reserved their day with us. We do however, still have a few dates available for this year, so please do contact us to check availability by contacting our Wedding Co-ordinator, Claire Clarke HERE
