At the centre of the weekend will be Alice in Wonderland, who will lay the trail for the Easter Egg Hunt in the gardens where King Charles I once walked. Every Alice token found will earn a free Easter Egg and each day there will also be a Golden Egg, which contains £100. Her assistants will also be showing visitors how to paint eggs and organising the egg rolling.
Alice loves animals and like our visitors, she will love the magical Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, Owls and Vultures in our Icarus Falconry Centre, especially when they are flown freely in the gardens. Also, although our newly opened English Wildlife Wing does not have a Mad March Hare, it does have Roxy the Fox, Norma the Hedgehog, and Neil & Neon the Rats amongst other local animals. And Marina, our very rare White Park Cow will also be on hand.
After all this and the traditional garden games, Alice will not be the only one having Tea. Connie’s Tea Parlour will be serving Wonderland cakes as well as tea, Holdenby’s own new filter coffee, and other treats. And our new shop, stocked splendidly by Seaton gifts will be there for a little retail therapy.
On Easter Monday, there will be a rare chance to visit the staterooms of the House itself where the BBC’s ‘Great Expectations’ was filmed.
